2012 Road Trip to Provins France

2012-provins-france

We went to Provins France for the day! It is only about a 2 hour drive from Paris and the whole town is basically a UNESCO site… so how cool is that. It is pretty funny because there are two ways to go with a medieval town…one… you know just move on or….two…. turn it into a giant renaissance festival…they went for the renaissance festival…unfortunately it is off season so no jousting or anything but come April all the way to October they have that every weekend…we will definitely go back. http://www.provins.net/
On to the facts
Provins is a medieval town that sits on the border of Ile de France and the Champagne region in France. It is one of the fair towns that were in the Champagne region during the medieval age. In 2001 it was declared a UNESCO world heritage site as one of the best examples of medieval architecture and representation of life during that age. The Cite Medieval contains a Tithe Barn (13th century merchant building), Caesar’s Tower (12th century defensive keep), Underground Galleries, and Vaulted lower rooms (rooms under many of the buildings). However there are many more as most of the upper town buildings have plaques of Heritage.
It was very cool!
